Rippa Rugby runners
/[kl All the Rippa Rugby boys had a great time at Rippa Rugby. We won against Linden 40-10 which was really good.We put on a terrific performance against Linden. The best try was my try. It was the best try because when I was running to the try line the belt came down. Luckily I jumped and then clutched the ball and put it on the try line. I also scored two tries.
by Emmanuel D'souza

Linden challenged us to a shield game in Rippa Rugby.
We won against them 40-10 to us. we've now had the shield for 6 years and no one can win it off us. We are ready for whatever schools in Tawa throw at us.

Just yesterday SFX defended the multi sports shield against Linden School. We had a tough first spell but we came back in the second spell scoring 5 tries. We were speedy, gaining ground every ball run our players got. The funniest try was Emmanuel d'Souzas because he was running with his tags at his knees so they could not reach that low. So when he was at the try line he tripped on his belt and luckily he tripped over the try line and scored the final try which won the game by an extra try. The score in the end was 40 points to 10 which made the team glad.

Fantastic Orchestra

On a rainy day we went to the Michael Fowler Centre to listen to orchestral music. It was amazing... there were so many different instruments. There were a lot of different schools

While we were waiting, the musicians paraded through the audience playing notes on their instruments. We saw a violin, tuba, cello, oboe, bassoon, trumpet and a french horn. One of the musicians came up to Jack with a great big tuba and we started asking questions. What was it made of? What would it cost? How much did it weigh?

When the orchestra started we learned how the royal people used to clap in 1607. They held their elbows, forearms and palms together, then clapped delicately with their fingertips. We learned the royal way of listening, with their face expressive and angled. They put their finger under the lower part of their ear.

We also learned how to conduct the music with your bare hands. The conductor showed us which way your hand has to go: up, down, left, right. Some conductors use a baton to conduct, rather than their bare hand. One conductor used a staff, banging it on the floor. If a musician didn't play the right note he would bang them on their head. One day he banged his foot and died of infection ten days later. In the olden days they didn't have any antibiotics so his infection got worse and killed him.

During a piece of ballet music the host come out in a tutu and tiara and pretended to dance the ballet. It was the Waltz of the Flowers.

It was an incredible show because there were so many notes played, high and low, by so many different instruments. After the show we all applauded the musicians. Going and listening to the orchestra was so much fun!

The orchestra started out little and got bigger and bigger.
